Shake it up

IMG_4590 copy2

Confession time. Because of the majority of the content of this blog, I’m sure you are aware that I put a lot of time and effort into keeping myself and my family healthy.  We eat copious amounts of fruits and vegetables, consume heaps of good fats and fermented foods and don’t even allow processed, packaged or sugary foods into the house. Everyone has a flaw though, right? Here’s ours.  We work a lot and we work late.  Our schedule is not ‘normal’ or ‘efficient’ and honestly, we could be getting more sleep at a better hour – sleep is the glue that holds our health together and I really should know better.  We work late, we sleep late, we use coffee as a coping mechanism in the morning, afternoon and night.  That is, until we found the salted caramel shake at Sonic. Yes, I’m sorry to say, but sadly it’s true :READ MORE:

Make it: Complexion Clearing and Refreshing Facial Mist

IMG_4393copy

I love a good beauty DIY just as much as the next girl, so when I decided that this Oklahoman weather was just too much for me to bear and I needed a way to refresh my poor skin (sometimes on the hour, ick), I started to research exactly HOW. This is what I came up with.  Now, I’m rather frugal (circumstantially, if I was a rich girl yadda yadda yadda) and if I can save a buck or two by doing it myself, you know I will.  This spray will invigorate and refresh your skin while keeping oiliness and blemishes at bay by packing in a bunch of antibiotics and anti-bacterial properties. Yes PLEASE: Materials/Ingredients 1 clean (and preferably recycled) mist bottle Green tea Peel of 1 orange Sweet almond oil Oregano oil (other anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory options include tea tree and lavender, but oregano is my FAVE) First, brew :READ MORE:

Make it: Twig & Twine wall hanging

Living in the middle of this country means INTENSELY hot summers and high utility bills (sweet, sweet air conditioning).  Unfortunately, I have found this to be very VERY true, particularly for the past few weeks and, incidentally, Scarlett hasn’t been too fond of going outside to play for more than 10 minutes at a time.  Cue – cabin fever.  We got it – so I have been wracking my brain every darn day trying to think up fun activities and things to do with her inside that will be entertaining for her and not the end of my sanity.  It wasn’t until today, while I was pouring over one of those “we live life like it’s one big garden party and our decor is impeccable” blogs, that I found the perfect craft that combined a little outside time with an activity that Scarlett could do (mostly) by herself.  There was a :READ MORE:

My hunk of a husband did a few test prints of the new shirt and it looks awesome.  Obviously. Not only that, but he’s decided to do a limited run of hand screened posters.  In metallic ink (I’ve only been hassling him for sparkly prints for, like, ever). Get them here.

Maker’s Monday!

Paloma

Happy Memorial Day everyone!  How lovely is it to have a long weekend, best spent with family, food and beautiful weather!  I’ve loved every minute of it and to top it off, I get to present you with a Maker that I have been excited about for, like, ever. Popbasic is a company I have supported since their first ‘Micro Collection’.  I found them through a friend and was hooked on the concept immediately, not to mention the fact that their CEO is an Australian transplant, just like me!  Popbasic’s mission is to fill your closet with high quality staples – the things that you don’t necessarily buy at the mall (because we all get distracted by trend pieces, lets face it) – but the items that you WISH you had as you stare blankly into your closet, trying to make an outfit out of all these now-dorky trends.  I feel :READ MORE:

Plant babies!

scallion heads

Look at my plant babies!  I recently rescued some sad looking aloes and a random indoor plant from a very hot, unkempt corner of a hardware store.  They’re a little tatty and the aloe could be doing better, so I’ve taken it upon myself to give these wondrous makers and givers of chlorophyl and oxygen a loving home – starting with transplanting into more suitable pots and giving them the treatment they deserve (not without payoff, you’ve heard of all the amazing things you can do with aloe, right?). You may also spy some scallions and an ambiguous, plastic covered pot…these are little experiments for a DIY (kinda) post I want to do in the near future.  Providing it works.  I will divulge, however, that my scallions are doing fabulously since this photo was taken.  The plastic covered pot remains secretive (to both you AND I), but I’m hoping to see :READ MORE:

Maker’s Monday

anchor

It’s that time again! Maker’s Monday, comin’ at ya like a northern bullet.  Excited is basically my normal state of being (backtrack through my posts, you’ll notice I say it a lot), but I am SERIOUSLY excited for today’s Maker.  It’s so nice having this feature come together the way it has, I have a lineup of Makers who are just so dreamy and so many wonderful collaborations ahead because of this.  Anyway, onward with today’s post! Today, I would like to introduce you to Mark Gypson, a Leather Craftsman (among MANY things, check out his typography and other ventures via the Tumblr link below) from Ft. Wayne.  I found Mark on Tumblr (I find a lot of things there, ie: Husband) and the things he was making just caught me.  I have to say, it was the Brass/Leather rings that roped me in at first, but the rest of his :READ MORE:

Maker’s Monday

tim&cate invite

I am so absolutely thrilled to be starting this new feature!  Maker’s Monday is set to become a regular post, published on the last Monday of every month and will showcase the work and life snippets of some of my favorite makers. We define a Maker as anyone who creates.  Music, home wares, art, words, furniture and ANYTHING else you could possibly think of.  These people inspire me and capture my attention entirely to the point that I want to know all about them and I would like to share what I learn with you also.  I have some exciting (and hopefully EXCITED) Makers lined up for the coming months, none more exciting than our very first Maker’s Monday Maker (mouthful) – Hilary Thackway! Hilary is a Sydney based maker of just about anything that cartwheels around her brain.  Her work is full of laughter and light and I had the :READ MORE:

She sews

Pillow

Yesterday was one of those ‘so tired I could actually maybe die’ days.  Could have had something to do with the brain-drain of a night before, the incredibly late night and the early morning following.  After (finally) finding something to keep my three year old happy and entertained, I decided to get the lead out and just be productive already.  I wouldn’t be able to keep this blog if I ceased making, right? So, with my icy cup of green tea in hand, I began the simple yet time consuming task of sewing a pillowcase set.  The whole process was pretty straightforward (and I’ll post a tutorial soon), but with the constant toddler interruptions and longing to just curl up on the beanbag and sleep (which I did, once they were sewn), it took a while to get on a roll. They turned out really nicely.  I kind of want to :READ MORE:

You’re Invited!

hitched-full-web

Just wanted to give you a quick peek at this gorgeous piece of design.  So glad I’m going to have a husband that can draw me up whatever I want whenever my heart desires.  That’s how it works, right? Because we are having the world’s simplest and smallest wedding, we’ve decided to forgo the traditional lengthy invitations with eloquent wording and several attachments.  Instead, we’re replacing them with an announcement (above), it will be sent to select family and that is about all.  The ball is then in their court and I just get to focus on…well, not a lot.  It’s bliss. I love our ‘announcements’ and I hope you do too.  What a clever guy I have.  Check him out Follow my blog with Bloglovin
